The wonderful contributions of Black people have often been overlooked and censored, causing our children to have a distorted view of themselves and authentic Black history. As such, within the pages of The ABCs of Affirming Black Children, you get 28 artists, activists, scientists, and speakers who dared to be great in the face of injustice and adversity to correct the image our children have of themselves. These affirmations and historical facts will build a foundation of confidence and vision that will prepare them for the greatness they are destined to achieve. The second edition includes the original 26 Black history facts and affirmations, *a new cover, as well as three additional people, glossary, ancient African symbols, bolder text, a space for children to write their own affirmations and discussion questions.

*The new cover shows Malcolm Little (X) as a seven-year-old child, a few years after his father was killed by the Klan, being affirmed by Malcolm X as an adult. This was intentionally curated to show Malcolm Little being affirmed by his older self (as Malcolm X) before he encountered the racist teacher in high school who told him he couldn't be a lawyer, and before he later made harmful choices that landed him in prison for several years. What would happen if we intercede with more Malcolm Littles as children, so that we can help their transition to Malcolm X be more seamless?
